What is the best diet for health.

There is a simple and a complicated way to answer that question but first a few facts that might help to motivate you to changing to a healthy diet. Obviously the direct result of eating incorrectly is obesity which causes major problems in any economy as well as families.

But something that you may not have considered is that monounsaturated fats found in olive oil and avocados improve the efficacy of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps bridge the gap between nerve cells. Not only does serotonin regulate mood, anger and aggression, but it also helps regulate appetite and some cognitive functions.

A study published by the Journal of American School Health in April 2008 demonstrated that students eating a healthful diet, defined as regular consumption of fruits, vegetables and unsaturated fats with little or no junk food, performed better on exams that those who ate an unhealthy diet.

To quote another study that was done on the enormous effect that obesity has directly on the economy is a study that was published in June 2009 by the American Journal of Health Promotion. The study revealed that if people classified as obese or overweight reduced their calorie intake permanently by only 100 calories a day, this would eliminate approximately 71.2 million cases of obesity while increasing the country's productivity by $45.7 billion annually.

But talking about being obese and how it increases the risk of chronic diseases such as stroke, heart disease, cancer and arthritis is not answering the question about the best diet plan for health. The answer is not complicated and just needs a bit of discipline.

You need to think ahead and plan your meals ahead of time and stop any impulse eating which only comes from low blood sugar and results in junk food. You need to plan small, manageable steps rather than one big drastic change. If you approach the changes gradually and with commitment, you will have a healthy diet sooner than you think.

Simplify. Instead of being overly concerned with counting calories or measuring portion sizes, think of your diet in terms of color, variety, and freshness. This way it should be easier to make healthy choices. Focus on finding foods you love and easy recipes that incorporate a few fresh ingredients. Gradually, your diet will become healthier and more delicious.

Probably the two most important issues to consider when planning your eating habits are water and exercise. Water helps flush our systems of waste products and toxins, yet many people go through life dehydrated—causing tiredness, low energy, and headaches.

Find something active that you like to do and add it to your day, just like you would add healthy greens, blueberries, or salmon. The benefits of lifelong exercise are abundant and regular exercise may even motivate you to make healthy food choices a habit.
